A lot of heart and a little sole is all that's needed to take part in this year's major charity event. Tiptop treats are in store for all the family at Race4Life on Sunday July 19th. With just a few weeks to go until the big day the organisation is almost complete. All you need to do is get your walking shoes, put a few euros in your pocket and come and join us for what will be a fabulous day out in Cómpeta.

The event has been created and co-organised by Debi Bond of Cómpeta. And following last year's
hugely successful day, once again all the profits raised will be going to Cudeca www.cudeca.org
cancer hospice.

This year's Race4Life is especially poignant for Debi as the whole day will be in memory of her
stepfather, and all those who have lost their lives to cancer during the last year. The big event kicks off at 11am with an Open Air Market in the newly renovated Paseo de las tradiciones alongside the church in the main Almirjara Plaza, Cómpeta. Stalls will include, books
and ceramics, jams and cakes, hats and footballs, clothes and jewellery, wine and breads plus
much more. "I am sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy," said Debi.

Around 2.30pm everyone is invited to gather outside the cemetery in Avenida de Torrox, for the official unveiling of the Race4Life Statue. The Alcalde of Cómpeta José Luis Torres Gutiérrez,
accompanied by the accomplished local artist Moira Schepel, will undertake this. This unique piece of artwork was commissioned last year and will be the focal point of this year's event.
"The statue will be a lasting tribute to mark the achievements of everyone who took part last year, and as a fitting memorial to loved ones who are no longer with us," explained Debi.

The final part of the 2km walk culminates at the Alberdini (www.alberdini.com) around 3pm, a local Rural Hotel where proprietors Inez and Rob will welcome everyone taking part….and the fun really starts. Making sure the children are kept busy and entertained, there is a kids cocktail bar and disco, treasure hunt with prize, face painting and bouncy castle. For the adults a well deserved welcome drink and the chance to watch, and be entertained by, a lively group of local ladies cooking a giant paella. A raffle and auction will follow (keep in touch with prize information on
www.race4life.competaart.com). A little later there will be live music from talented local group Straw Dogs, plus Remy's themed disco – all making sure the entertainment will go on into the night.

Tickets for this event are once again just 10€ for adults and 5€ for the under 12’s.

Don't forget, together we can make a difference.
