PETE´S MAINTENANCE SERVICES

Such curious times we are living in, so many uncertainties and plenty of unanswered questions. Can I go out? Do I need to wear a mask? What about gloves? So many grey areas and contradictory information. What is one to do?

At least in these unusual and daunting days there are still some things that can be totally relied upon. Weather is one of those things…. sure as eggs is eggs every day we will have some “weather”, and we’ll be avidly determined to talk about it!! You can take the Brits out of Britain but you can never stop the overwhelming desire we have to discuss the elements.

Here in Southern Spain, we are lucky in as much as we don’t experience too many days of rain. Our hot dry summers seem to last months, beautiful days stretching into warm, balmy evenings spent out doors with barbecues, beers and dipping in the pool to cool off. How wonderful, idyllic many would call it, yet even then on a regular basis we can’t resist a weather moan. Shouts of, “Oh it’s too hot, I cant sleep” or “I’m sweating, feel the back of my neck” are heard all over, people everywhere are praying for cooler days and rain because “we need it for the plants”. Well we do need it for the plants and eventually it arrives.

Let me tell you, if you have never experienced a rainy day in Spain you are in for a shock. Torrential barely covers it, when I say that it’s like stepping out of your front door to find a bloke with a hose pipe spraying directly at you, I’m not exaggerating. So, then we’re happy right? Wrong! “We wanted rain, but not this” and “Nothings dry, everything feels damp” then become the whinges of the week!
Now there’s one other thing that is a reliable certainty, you can bet your bottom dollar that with a bit of rain and a bit of sun our gardens will now be veritable jungles. There’s every chance that on closer inspection you may find Sting and his wife fighting to protect an indigenous tribe that moved in and evolved some time over the winter. Bushes and trees are taking over, weeds are as tall as trees and our once clear pathways and uninterrupted views are now a thing of the past.
