COMPETA VILLAGE ARTWALK

0

Welcome to Competa for the 7th village Artwalk, for four days during Semana Santa (1, 2, 4, 5 of April).

The intention of this event is to offer, to all those who are interested in the world of art, an opportunity to meet with the diverse, international and multicultural artistic community of this “Pueblo blanco”. Art will be shown at different locations in the centre. Competa is well known for its artistic and creative environment, is has an open, tolerant, friendly and welcoming culture whihc is the reason why you will find a wide range of artists, sculptors, writers and musicians, all looking for creative inspiration in this countryside at the foot of the mountains.

We have examples of painting, photography, graphic art, drawings, stoneware pottery, ceramic art, bronze sculptures, turned wood and textiles. It will be a good time to meet artists and craftsmen, discuss their work, lives and inspirations. This year the event will be even more animated with live music in various venues in the centre of this beautiful authentic mountain village. If the weather is good you will enjoy stunning views of the mountains and the sea. There are also many great restaurants with good quality food, e.g. Spanish, Moroccan and international cuisine, and cosy bars.

.In the Andalusian village you’ll find beautiful corners, alleyways, passages and typically Spanish “plaza’s”. Often you’ll have a sense of walking through a painting, with it’s picturesque Moorish architecture. If you’re looking for good quality art work & craftwork the Artwalk is not to be missed. But also for those who like to take home some typical local products, Competa offers a lot.

Several artists will give a workshop for children so that they can ‘experience’ working creatively. Their works will be shown in the village during the Artwalk.

There will be offered guided tours daily at blue kiosk in main carpark 11 a.m. & 2 p.m.

Artists who live and work in this area will exhibit their work, together with a number of invited artists. For example this year the guest-artist Diana Worthy, who is living near Antequera will exhibit her ceramics and felt artworks. The stoneware works are hand thrown and hand decorated, with the result that she offers high quality ceramic bowls, vases etc. Her handmade felt wall-hangings are created in pure alpaca fibre coming from her own Alpacas!

Local German artist Heide Dorsch will exhibit her works in restaurant El Pilon. Realistic works made with thick paste acrylic. Opposite the restaurant you’ll find the gallery Luz de la Vida where Dutch Artist Lieuwke Loth will also exhibit her drawings and bronze sculptures.

Irene Grant, will show her paintings in Salon de Actos; a range of realistic paintings of life, landscape and portraits in oil and acrylic.

A Dutch guest-artist who will bring one of her works especially from Holland to Spain is Merel Holleboom. She makes big metal sculptures which she designs and manufactures all by herself. English illustrator John Barrett, living in Canillas de Albeida, will show his paintings and drawings which are inspired by Garcia Lorca at Paco’s restaurant. Spanish artist Raquel Noguerol Perez, from Granada, shows her drawings full of dreams and stories. Since there are 19 artists participating we can go on explaining what kind of work they will exhibit. But if you do love art, you must just come up to Competa at the beginning of April.

On behalf of the artists and craft people of Cómpeta & the guest-artists, we welcome you to the Art Walk!
