On the 31st of March, 1st, 3rd and 4th of April the doors of the studios open in Cómpeta, and there is music in the streets. The Art Walk has become an important cultural event for of the Axarquia region. Paintings, drawings, textile art, photographic art, ceramics, and bronze and steel sculptures will be shown at 20 different venues. If you love art, you will not want to miss this very special event!

36 international artists representing ten different nationalities present their work for the Cómpeta Art Walk! The event also offers 7 live music performances and workshops about sketching and drawing, painting with spatula, raku-firing and photography. There is a drawing contest for children and the opportunity to see artists at work. English artist George Kowzan has been inspired by one of Lieuwke’s lasercut-works. He will paint his design on panels during the art days, and on the 4th of April at 5pm the work will be presented at its permanent place on the terrace of Restaurant Teteria.

All this, and much more can be found in the colourful bouquet of art that Dutch artist, and gallery owner Lieuwke Loth and her team have put together for the 10th anniversary of Cómpeta Art Walk.

To give a small impression of the presented art:
Emma Pettit paints her colourful portraits of women who reach out from the canvas and connect with you, the spectator. Paul Arts has lived for years in Marbella, where he was a dentist but is now an emerging artist. He makes big, impressive paintings.

Mietje Baeten is a Belgian artist who expresses the fragile presence of women in her work. She treats the paper in a special way, and works on every piece for many hours. For those who love photography as an art medium there is plenty to see, 6 photographers will show their work. Lieuwke Loth shows her sculptures in bronze and laser-cut steel. The Cómpeta-born painter Gerado Garcia Avila paints his vividly coloured abstract landscapes, influenced by Pollock’s style. And German artist Gerrit Oppelland-Hampel shows brilliantly coloured, large-format acrylic paintings.
Saad Nazih arrives from Morocco and impresses with his colourful, emerging from the dark mysterious figures.

To mark the 10th anniversary of Cómpeta Art Walk, you will be able to enjoy live music every day! On Saturday at 2:30pm we’ll first have a short moment to celebrate this 10th edition together at Plaza Almijara. Also it is the 5th time that Lieuwke Loth has organised this big art event.

EspaBelgajazz, a fantastic lounge jazz band, will kick off the festival.
Local band, Jukebox Bandits with their electric mix of pop, rock, blues and folk can be heard as well.
Singer-songwriter Keith James performs his music at the Galeria Luz de la Vida.

Local musicians offer a jam session on Tuesday at the plaza.
Trinity, a jazz/blues trio bring their melodic arsenal, full of good vibrations and a lot of swing. Brendon Taylor offers his own sound and songs as songwriter and singer.

And the Spanish band ‘Aire Flamenco’ is booked for the last evening of the Art Walk 2018 edition on the 4th of April.
