ART WALK APRIL 2014

The 6th Art Walk will return to Cómpeta this year over the Easter weekend, Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of April from 11.00 – 19.00 o’clock. This event aims to bring together the community in an animated, artistic atmosphere & will be hosted at various venues in Cómpeta.

The previous 5 Art Walks have been a great success and many people from Cómpeta, other inland villages and coastal towns, have enjoyed this vibrant festival of arts and crafts. The weekend will offer all those with an interest in art the chance to meet the multinational artists of Cómpeta who have made Andalusia their home for many years. Paintings, photographs, graphics, drawings, ceramic bowls, papier mache, turned wood, textile works and bronze sculptures will be shown. More than 19 artists and craftspeople will show their works.

Even the very young inhabitants of the village will have the chance to taste what it is like to paint on a canvas. Children will be offered the chance to take part in a workshop, given by participating artists, to create their own piece of art work. These works will be shown in many different locations during the Easter weekend.

Andalusian life is the inspiration for many of the artists and the typical looks of this region can be seen in several of the art-works on display. In the poetic and atmospheric works of Bettina Winters we experience the typical scenes of rough mountains and old white walls. Moorish influences can be found in the work of the Finnish artist Kirsti Jantunen. Whilst the beautiful scenery that surrounds the workshop of German artist Christa Hillekamp can be seen in many of her landscapes.

This 6th Art Walk will feature many artists participating for the first time, such as Dutch artist Lieuwke Loth who will exhibit drawings and bronze sculptures. Also on show will be the very colorful works of our special guest-artists Pamela Perez Bernal originally from Chile and the hot and vital works of Spanish artist Manuel Lecrin. If walking the Art Walk builds up an appetite why not have a break at the Hotel Balcon, one of the exhibition venue; whose restaurant will be offering a special art lunch. Can’t wait until the Easter weekend? A group of five local artists, called “ARTE 5+”, will be exhibiting their works during the whole month of April in ‘Plaza Almijara’ opposite the kiosk. Lieuwke’s works will also be on display all month in the art house ‘Luz de la Vida’ opposite the restaurant El Pilon.

This Easter weekend the artists & their art will shine, and we hope the sun will too. Cómpeta is THE place to find art this spring, so on behalf of the artists and craft people of Cómpeta, we welcome you to the 6th Art Walk this April!
