In the February Edition of The Grapevine Magazine, we interviewed local darts player, Tab Hunter. Tab was due to play in the singles, doubles and team games at the XI Campeonato de Andalucia 2010 but unfortunately he had to withdraw a few days before the event due to illness. Tab's team needed a replacement so they called upon the services of local Cómpeta darts player Phil Stockton.
..
For those who do not know Phil, he has been continually topping the league of highest finishers in the local league and for the last 3 years has won the Christmas Knockout Tournament held at Bar la Roca in Cómpeta
With one days notice, Phil joined Team Rena's Bar (Benalmadena) and was on his way to Cadiz to compete in the Andalucian darts championship!
Results
Singles Competition Winner –
Campeon de Andalucia
Phil Stockton came out Singles Champion beating la Linea player Manolo Vilerio.
In the final, Phil lost the first leg of the competition but then proved too strong for his competitor coming out the ultimate winner and the title of Andalcian Champion for 2010
Doubles Competition Winner
Phil Teamed up with Lol Pink (Rena's Bar), and after a full days play on Sunday saw the pairing just lose one leg throughout the competition beating the Club 3 Dardos pairing, also from the Malaga League, in the final.
Team Competition Runners Up
Last year's league winners proved too strong for Team Rena's bar who were a man down in their
team due to illness.
Great Results Phil, you must be thrilled. What other competitions have you won in the UK?
I used to represent Cheshire in the county team , so mainly local competitions in the Cheshire area, Superleague, Individual and doubles tournaments. Also in the last three years I have made the quarter finials in the Gibraltar Open.
Have you played against any famous players?
If so did you win?
The most famous player I have ever played against is Eric Bristow, he won comfortably but it was a great experience, he gave me his set of darts at the end of the evening as the man of the match award. Also in the Cheshire league I came up against, Dave Whitcombe, Tony O'shea, Andy Hamiltion (who once beat me in 10 darts!) and Andy Lewis. Once Phil 'The Power' Taylor sat reserve for our pub team, he didn't play as nobody knew who he was, obviously this is going back a few years!!
Will you now continue playing in Professional Competitions in Spain?
I hope so, I have just played The Gibraltar Open where I got to the quarter finals and the prize for winning the Andalucian Open was an all expenses paid trip to Alicante to compete in the Spanish National Finals. The finals start on the 29th April, and run over a weeks period.
I will do my best and you never know!
Also well done to Colin Jeffrey from Cómpeta for getting to the Semi- Finals of the Gibraltar open and losing to the ultimate winner.
