The day will commence at 10.45am with the annual 5km sponsored walk, for those who wish to participate – around the village of Competa, finishing at The Alberdini Rural Hotel, Pago la Lomilla 85, Competa. Telephone 952516294.
The idea first started in 2006 as sadly many of us had lost friends and family to cancer. Instead of travelling back to the UK to join a “Race for Life” in aid of Cancer Research UK where annually up to 750,000 participate at one of the numerous venues across various towns and cities across the UK, we decided to arrange a local event “Walk for Life” and support Cudeca. To celebrate a decade of Walk for Life, we’d like everyone to join in the celebration and walk wearing the colours of Cudeca, green and/or yellow or dress up as a Sunflower. There will be three separate prizes for the best dressed female, male and youngster. Also for the first time, en route there will be a “special Cudeca watering hole.” Full details to be announced in next month’s Grapevine.
As always, it is free to join our walk, all I please ask is that you try and obtain as much sponsor money as possible or make a donation. Please contact me, Cindy Jones 665156467 or email cindyjones19@hotmail.com for a sponsor form.
The “Day for Life” fun begins from 12noon onwards at The Alberdini with lots of entertainment for both adults and children. There will be an opportunity to try Hoopla, Tin Can Alley, Pin the Poo and Cover the Bottle and win a prize generously sponsored by Competa local businesses. There will be the annual Darts Competition kindly sponsored, once again by Pavo Real.
At lunchtime, the Alberdini will prepare and cook a “Paellagigante” for only 5e a portion of which 2e is donated to Cudeca. There will be numerous stalls for you to meander around, the ever popular home-made cake stall, handmade jewellery, home-made soaps, bargains at the Bric a Brac, wooden carvings, local produce and of course, an amazing Raffle Stall. If you are able to support our stalls by donating some surplus garden produce, bric-a-brac or wish to bake a cake, please contact me as per details at the bottom of article.
I am really hoping the weather will be kind to us this year, you may recall last year the walkers got absolutely drenched in a torrential downpour. Although I cannot guarantee the weather, I will pray for a dry, sunny day. I can however, promise you a fun day as described above together with a full programme of musical entertainment, whilst at the same time helping Cudeca. It is a charitable organisation that provides palliative care to the terminally ill cancer sufferers within the province of Malaga. Cudeca receives very little public funding instead they entirely depend on initiatives for raising money to ensure they can continue to provide the “special kind of caring” to those who need specialist palliative care.
Thank you.
