Hello and welcome to this new column on Nutrition in your diet.
In this column my aim is to introduce you to the inner workings of your body and try to explain each month a little on how important Nutrition is in your diet, where we obtain the vital ingredients from for a healthy body and how they work.
Many people use the word DIET on a daily basis but usually in association with being on a diet in terms of weight loss. However diet has many meanings depending on which source the information is obtained from.
Definition of the word DIET:
• food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and its effects on health
• the usual food and drink consumed by an organism
• habitual nourishment
• food and drink regularly provided or consumed
It would be ideal if we could sum up the word diet to mean to regulate the body with wholesome nutritious nutrient filled food.
In the western world we are obsessed by diet but are growing more obese annually. The statistics are quite frightening to see, especially in the younger generations. Our lifestyles have changed radically during the past 30 odd years. This together with a continual bombardment often in the form of advertising, in the main of highly processed foods, has contributed enormously in brainwashing us into eating frequently unwholesome foods.
It is good nutrition in the diet that is paramount in giving us healthy bodies. Glowing skin, bright eyes, glossy hair a zest for life are all indications that our internal ‘body’ is working at its optimum.
So what can we do about this? We can start with making small changes. Each small change is a challenge when one is overcome we can move on to another one and so forth until we have made a big difference to our lifestyle. The benefits can be so rewarding.
We all need to be continually aware of what we eat and drink. Therefore it would help if we understand the mechanics of what food and drink contain, where it comes from, what the body does with it and why.
That is where this column I hope is going to be able to help a tiny bit in giving everyone some understanding of these issues.
A good area to start with will be the Digestive system so next month this will be the topic I am going to write about.
I hope you have enjoyed this introduction and should you have any comments you are welcome to email me at jeanlaguita@hotmail.com
