Wow! It’s been hard work but thanks to everyone’s efforts, yours included, the Nako Project Fund now stands at just over 2000 €uros. Fantastic!
The project has caught everyone’s imagination; but who could fail to be moved by this poor devout community living their lives in exile from their own country (Tibet) and raising their families in the harsh Himalayan region. These are the people your money will help.
Remember from our previous articles, the devout Buddhist people of Nako needed a Prayer House for their village. This project is raising money for the building materials. Our April fundraising activities, Car Boot Sale and Tombola, raised over 1000€.
The Car Boot Sale should have been at Almuñeca on Easter Saturday. Having loaded two cars and a trailer with all the fine things you donated, John & Linda, with help from friends Tom & Jo, set off before the crack of dawn. On arrival the Almuñeca Policia Local declared that there would be no market that Saturday! The four returned to Cómpeta dispirited but rose equally early on Sunday, headed to Nerja and did fantastically well there from the second they arrived.
The Tombola in Cómpeta was another great success. Local businesses donated items or gift vouchers as prizes. There was also a Tombola for kids, with consolation prizes so that no child went away empty-handed; however, we think we’ve spotted the gamblers of the future! Additional money was raised via “Buy a Brick”; names written on the paper bricks will be sealed into the walls of the Prayer House for a lasting memory.
Next month read about our travel plans; it’s a “Long Way to the Himalayas” but soon we’ll be “Off on the Road to Nako”!!
Meanwhile, a BIG:
