As part of its Cultural week, the Ayuntamiento of Canillas de Albaida proudly presents a Night of Multi-cultural Music and Dance to be held in the Plaza (main square), Canillas de Albaida on Sunday 6th October. Admission to the event is free but there will be opportunities to donate to local charities.
The event will be hosted by Inez Leniere and Roger Sparks in Spanish and English and they will open the concert at 6.45pm, an early start but there is lot to fit in.
The first artists to perform will be the Grupo de Zambombas, this is a group of local ladies singing their traditional songs and playing their very distinctive percussive instruments. Local band MPG, (Martin Cart, Phil Simmonds and Geoff Murrell) will then play a mix of American and British songs followed by Drums of Africa, a great hit at the last concert 2 years ago.
Fantastic Belgian Flamenco guitarist, Pedro Sauviller, who learned his trade amongst the gypsies of Seville, will be performing next followed by another local duo, Acoustic Roots, Roger Sparks and Mitch France, Pedro may well help out on a couple of songs of theirs as well.
Up next will be fabulous Scottish fiddle player, Doug Stuart from Fortrose near Inverness. He is part of a vibrant fiddling tradition in the Highlands of Scotland and for 24 years was the leader of the Inverness Fiddlers’ Society, a fiddle orchestra of over 50 members. Doug may also join Acoustic Roots for a number or two and then play a selection of fiddle tunes backed by Mitch France.
American dance culture will be well represented by 2 local brothers, Pablo and Isaac Chavos who will perform their exciting breakdancing routine followed by their very talented sister, Isabel, who goes under the name of Fabel. She will sing and play some lovely Spanish songs, possibly joined by Geoff Murrell for a well known number made famous by Frank Sinatra!
Drums of Africa will perform again followed by Kowther and Gunila’s very atmospheric Arabic Dancing routine.
After one more appearance each of Pedro Sauviller and Doug Stuart, Acoustic Roots and Doug will play some celtic tunes for Grainne McCoy who will dance an Irish reel. This will be followed by a ceilidh when the audience will be encouraged to join in and will be shown all the moves.
At around midnight (if all goes to plan), as many musicians as is practical will get together on stage and play some music for dancing to. There will be a grande finale (to be decided) when all artists will be invited on stage to perform the final number.
This unique multi-cultural night of music was a huge success when last held 2 years ago, please come along and make sure it is just as successful again this year.
