The Mudejar in Archez reopened in November under new management.
The Mudejar is a lovely rustic building with both a dining area and centre patio space for eating and or drinking along with five unique rooms for rental on the floor above. Nicky and her partner Thomas have taken over this new venture and have opened up the building, which had been closed since 2010, painted it and added their own small touches. In essence the feel of the place is still similar to before as it is a lovely building full of charm and character. Nicky’s aim is for the Mudejar to become a popular place to eat or have a drink in the bar area, for both tourists and locals alike.
Nicky is not new to the hospitality business having spent the last 6 years working in Benalmadena in a couple of different bars and restaurants. It was in fact whilst working in Benalmadena where she met her partner. Eventually they decided they both wanted to run their own place having spent a few years working for other people and Nicky felt it was time to be her own boss. They had both visited Archez a few times as Thomas had friends in the area and they often came up the mountain on their days off. A couple of years back they had looked at the Mudejar, not long after it first closed, but the time wasn’t right then for them to take on their own place. However, over the following couple of years the need for change and a new venture became more intense and they found themselves in Archez looking into the prospect of taking on the Mudejar again. The original idea was take on a small bar but instead they found themselves a bar, restaurant and 5 rooms to rent!
They opened the doors for business in November with their chef Sasha who Nicky brought with her from Benalmadena and she also invited her best friend Sharon from the UK to join her, so Sharon joins the team as a waitress. It was important to Nicky to have a close and trust worthy team around her to ensure a good start to the business and ultimately its long term success.
The Mudejar is open to the public from 12noon everyday but Monday in the winter, serving food all day with Full English breakfasts, Homemade Mudejar burgers and homemade chips and providing special dishes for two people such as the popular leg of lamb. They also welcome you to just come and have a drink in their bar or patio area.
Nicky hopes that you will come and join them to celebrate over the festive season so she has put together a traditional Christmas day menu and she will also be holding a New Years Eve Party with a free finger food buffet and music.
