LA CABRA PELUDA

La Cabra Peluda bar in Archez has recently opened its doors.  It was formally known as La Pena and is under new ownership of Gavin and Sabrina although Gavin will take on the major role of running the business.

They have had a house in Canillas de Albaida since 2010 but made the permanent move to Spain in November of last year. Sabrina and Gavin ran a 17 room, 2 restaurant Hotel with public bar in Guernsey for 10 years and previous to this a bar/restaurant for 7 years and prior to this an Irish bar in the UK. They are certainly not new to the hospitality business!

The move to Spain was to change the pace of their lives although from the start Gavin was on the lookout for an opportunity to do something which could combine business and sociability, which ultimately was another bar! After a couple of ideas that didn’t come to fruition they were introduced to Carmen who owned La Pena .They were able to work out a deal with her so Gavin and Sabrina took over the lease form the 1st May this year.

As the bar had been closed for a while they needed to get in and paint, tidy and put their own stamp on the place.  A pool table has been installed and a darts board. Gavin explained all through his working career in the bar trade he has been involved in darts and pool leagues and he is keen to continue the trend in La Cabra Peluda. He would welcome back any teams or players from previous years and would definitely like to put together teams for next year’s leagues.  Inside there is plenty of space for both darts and pool to been played and Gavin encourages you to come and practice too!  Continuing with the sports theme they are waiting for satellite TV to be installed so they can show sports too.

Gavin didn’t want to take on the same pressures and headaches of his previous work but instead do the bit he most enjoyed doing, being a barman. So for now La Cabra Peluda is a drinks bar offering free tapas. This may evolve over the months to offering a choice of a few raciones but for now while he is finding his feet he is a pub.  When they opened on the 1st June they didn’t want to publicise anything in order to see how things went and solve any problems that occurred before they advertised officially they were open. Gavin admitted that the road being closed between Canillas de Albaida and Archez hadn’t been the ideal start either! However, he is now confident it’s time to advertise and hopefully the road will be open by the time you read this!

In addition to being involved in the darts and pool teams Gavin welcomes live music and as such on Sunday the 16th of July from 2.30 to 5.30 Jack Case Rebellion band will be playing and they will be serving paella at €6.00 per head. Finally, they are keen to work with charities in the area and would be happy to host quiz nights and fundraising events, so charities do get in touch.

We wish Gavin and Sabrina the best of luck and through their advertising we will keep you informed how the bar will evolve over the coming months.
