Is this the end of our Telecommunication blues?
For many years telecommunications have been the proverbial thorn in the crown here in this costal region. Whether you live in the “campo” or even one of the main towns. Dealing with telefonica has often been the topic of many an article or conversation. The thing is, we all seem to need the internet in this day and age. Booking flights and checking the weather. Emails and instant messaging. Free Skype calls and a whole lot more. We simply could not survive without this modern day marvel. So what happens when telefonica say ´No, we cannot fit you a line there´ ? (Or you just give up waiting as what they really said was yes, certainly, you'll have it with in 10 days!) What happens when you're sick of being charged for a line that you never had? Paying for broadband that never has worked? This could very well be the best thing you have read.
Introduction
Dynamic Broadband is the name given to a new service from Nerja Solutions. They have been providing television and communication services from their base here on the coast since 1999. Dynamic broadband is completely independent from telefonica and any of its subsidiaries. Therefore you do not need a landline to get it. “Even to those places where it was never thought possible to have high speed internet connectivity.” It delivers high speed reliable broadband internet into your home using the latest wireless technology. Because the system is “wireless” there is no dependency on telefonica, and the system has been rolled out over large areas. Even to those places where it was never thought to be possible to have high speed internet connectivity.
The Technology
Huge advances in high speed wireless technology now enable long range connectivity. Using new higher frequencies avoids the noise pollution of domestic appliances like microwave ovens and TV senders. This technology now allows brilliant connection speeds, even up to 20km from the base station. The current network infrastructure allows speeds up to 108Mbps. 50 times faster than the European average broadband speed. So as the Internet in general speeds up so will Dynamic Broadband. Future proofing is part of the plan.
What's involved?
A small discrete antenna measuring just 10” x 2” x 1” is mounted outside of the property in a position
where it can see one of the many Dynamic Broadband base stations or repeaters. (Line of sight required) A single thin cable runs into the property to the area where the client wishes to use their PC, Apple Mac or laptop computer. “Most clients see average speeds of 2Mbps. Some areas get up to 4Mbps.” A small DC power adaptor supplies power to the external router via the single CAT5 cable. The computer connects without any software or “dial up” applications and only requires a LAN socket. It is an “Always On” connection just like conventional ADSL from any other landline based provider. Speeds vary throughout the coverage areas however most clients see average speeds of 2Mbps. Some areas get up to 4Mbps. Steps are under way in readiness of ADSL V2, spawning a new era in ultra-high speed internet.
The Cost
Installation prices do vary from place to place and will depend on whether you are a “Pay as You Go” client or a “Year Round” user. The Fixed monthly cost based on all year round use is just €29 per month inclusive of taxes. “You will probably never pay for a single call again!” Because you have no need for a telefonica landline, that works out a whole lot cheaper than ADSL from telefonica, Wanadoo, Jaztel, and many others. Current prices on those networks exceed €65 before you have even made a call. With the advent of the new packages from “Skype” and other “voice over IP”, you can now have unlimited calls to over 20 European destinations for just €4 per month. Yes that's free calls to Spain, England, France, and Germany to name just a few. You will probably never pay for a single call again!
Coverage Areas
Deployment of new masts and repeaters have increased coverage areas by over 180 Km2. The service is now available in most parts of Competa, Torrox Pueblo, Torrox Campo, Frigiliana, Frigiliana Campo, Maro, Nerja, Punta Lara, Nerja Campo, The Capistranos, Rio Seco, Canillas de Albaida, Corumbella, and other surrounding areas. Future expansion plans include many more costal areas. And within the next few months will see the network grow to cover more and more people tucked behind hills and mountains. Check the website www.nerjasolutions.com for more coverage details or telephone them on 952527145 or Mobile 690671373.
