Goodbye and Thank-you

There will not be another Art Walk in 2020. For the past few years, the Competa Art Walk has been one of the most interesting and inspiring cultural events in springtime on the Costa del Sol. Many visitors have enjoyed great art from a wide spectrum of artists, as well as enjoying interesting interaction with the artists themselves.

Every year hotels were fully booked and restaurants packed. The village is already known as ‘a place to be’ for artists and musicians and it seems every year more and more people found their way to this inspiring area with its tempting art vibes to be found all over the place! Real estate agencies have seen an increase in house-sales over the last few years! For sure it has had something to do with all these vibrant events.

The Art Walk organisation would like to give thanks to the municipality for providing their spaces for the Artwlk. We are also very pleased with the number of local businesses who have chosen to support this event. A huge ‘thank you’ must also go out to the volunteers who gave so much of their time, skills and efforts. We’d like to mention a few of our hard working volunteers:

English artist, Mitch France who took care of the graphic design for the posters/ leaflets/ bio’s and built and maintained the website. German artist, Gerrit Oppelland Hampel who took care of Facebook promotion and Anne Konig, who was the contact person for the council and also for some of the sponsors.

Also thanks to the hosts who offered their houses or gardens for the art shows. Of course the Art Walk organisation is happy with so many enthusiastic artists, musicians and theatre makers who made this 11th edition an unforgettable experience for many! Muchas gracias.

Last but not least we’d like to thank Lieuwke Loth for her endless efforts to make it happen. She has dedicated much of her time, skills and energy to make it an event that’s added great value to the town and its people, the artists involved and all the art lovers.. From a small Walkabout she has created a big cultural event of which we all can be proud of! It has now inspired others to take the concept to their own villages, for example in Frigiliana and Torrox.

Lieuwke has done the job now for 6 years. She has personally got a lot from the event and has loved the experience. It was Lieuwke’s pleasure to create something that has served the village. For now she has decided to give her time to other priorities. She has missed the right support, help and acknowledgement from certain parties and feels it is time to end her (free) efforts for this enormous project every year. The Art Walk which we have become accustomed to over the last 6 years will not take place in 2020.
