Wow, what a few months we’ve had! The Covid-19 pandemic and the responses across the world were unprecedented. It’ll be far more than a note in history books. For those who experienced Spain’s lockdown, one of the strictest in Europe, it will be unforgettable.
Now, as we finally begin to open our doors, see friends and family, and go out once more, we have a new perspective on life and liberty and, for anyone in Málaga, the tremendous privileges we can enjoy here. From the beauty of the landscape and the wonderful open-minded culture, to the hot summer days and cool nights, to the delights of the Mediterranean cuisine – our access to these things should be appreciated – celebrated – as we start enjoying freedom once again.
At Bodegas Bentomiz we hope our guests will do just that by joining our gourmet lunches in one of the most beautiful locations in the province. Bodegas Bentomiz is the winery situated near Sayalonga; it is just off the main road between the Cruce de Árchez and Sayalonga pueblo. In fact, to judge from the accolades and prizes our wines have won, it is one of the best wineries in Andalusia, and perhaps beyond. And we also have a wine-centred restaurant.
Reopening to serve lunches at two o’clock from Wednesday to Sunday, we are doing everything to ensure that people can come with complete peace of mind. This includes distancing measures so each party has their own space, expanded cleaning and sterilization routines, masks and gloves for staff, access to hand gel sanitizer for all, and more. We have extended the shading on our terrace to enable correct spacing for guests enjoying eating there.
Indeed, whether you are in the light and spacious salon or outside beside the herb garden, our preparations will mean you can relax with completely peace of mind. You’ll be able to focus instead on enjoying the gourmet food we serve. André has prepared new menus, with dishes that will be freshly prepared, mainly from local and, where possible, organic ingredients. Each dish is designed to pair perfectly with one of our prize-winning Ariyanas wines, whether it is our rosé made from the rare local Romé grape (indigenous to the Axarquía, but little know), our spectacular dry Moscatel, with its delicious nose, perfectly balanced acidity and long finish, our blended red, which complements savoury dishes beautifully, or one of our dessert wines, with their perfect balance of sweetness and freshness.
In recent years we have, in collaboration with Scottish winemaker Pamela Geddes of Lobban wines, expanded our range to make two wonderful sparkling wines. These combine excellent base wines from the Penédes with, as the “licor de expidación” our moscatel dessert wines. The resulting Lobban-Bentomiz are delicious brut sparkling wines. They are only available from Bodegas Bentomiz, but nothing could be more enjoyable than to taste them while enjoying a meal with us. Now that is something to celebrate!
