What do you love about Competa? Cómpeta is a wonderful place to live; it has a special charm that makes it different, almost unique. I have good reason to think this as what often occurs in this village is that many people who come here to visit, look for a place to live and new way of life and some even stay forever. ¿Qué cambios ha habido desde que abrió por primera vez? Empezamos hace casi 25 años como instaladores de fontanería y mantenimiento. La mayoría de trabajos eran reparaciones en casas unifamiliares. Ahora nuestra oferta es mucho más completa, realizamos instalaciones de todo tipo: agua, gas, piscinas, climatización, energía solar, instalaciones de sondeos, realizamos instalaciones de redes para ayuntamientos, comunidades de regantes, comunidades de propietarios, etc. Abarcamos una oferta amplia, pero seguimos atendiendo religiosamente a nuestros clientes con los pequeños problemas del día a día, como hacíamos cuando empezamos, cobrando siempre sólo lo justo. Esta política de trabajo nos ha permitido superar todos estos años de crisis con solvencia What changes have there been since you first opened? We started nearly 25 years ago as plumbing installers and providing maintenance. Most jobs were home repairs. Now our offer is much more complete. We perform all kinds of installations including: water, gas, swimming pools, air conditioning, solar energy, facility surveys, we perform installations for the town hall, community blocks, etc. Although, we now cover a wide range of services, we continue to serve our smaller customers, fixing the everyday problems, as we did when we first started. This policy has worked for us and has allowed us to remain solvent through the crisis. ¿Dónde aprendiste la profesión y como has continuado formándote? Mi padre también trabajaba en esta profesión. Fue el primero que empezó a realizar instalaciones de fontanería en Cómpeta y alrededores hace sobre cincuenta años. Él me enseñó a mí y a muchos de los instaladores que han continuado la profesión durante todos estos años. Yo aprendí desde muy pequeño, solía acompañar a mi padre en sus trabajos por las tardes, después del colegio. Años después, una vez abierto nuestro negocio y debido a la transformación urbanística que experimentó Cómpeta, me formé y especialicé en otros tipos de instalaciones como piscinas, calefacción, aire acondicionado, equipos solares, etc. Mientras, estudiaba inglés en la escuela de idiomas de Vélez-Málaga, algo que también intuí necesario y que ha facilitado enormemente el servicio que ofrecemos a nuestros clientes. Where did you train to be a plumber and what did you do after your training? My father worked in this profession. Around 50 years ago he was the first man to start plumbing in Cómpeta. He taught me and many other installers who have also continued in the profession over the years. I learned from a very young age and after school in the afternoons I used to accompany my father to work. Years later, after opening the business and due the expansion and transformation Cómpeta had experienced, I trained and specialized in other types of services such as swimming pools, heating, air conditioning and solar equipment, etc. I also studied English at the language school in Vélez-Málaga. I believed this would be necessary and has indeed greatly improved the service we can provide to our customers ¿Cuánto tiempo has tenido tu propio negocio en competa? ¿Qué cambios ha habido desde que abriste por primera vez? Nosotros empezamos nuestro negocio propio en 1.992. Mi mujer y yo arrancamos con este proyecto en una situación de crisis profunda, fuimos ganando clientela poco a poco en aquellos tiempos difíciles con nuestra política de buen hacer, material de calidad y precios razonables. Después los tiempos mejoraron y el negocio fue creciendo. Nos rodeamos de buenos trabajadores, algunos de ellos todavía siguen con nosotros a día de hoy. Periódicamente nosotros y nuestros trabajadores realizamos cursos de formación para adecuar nuestros conocimientos a los cambios e innovaciones que llegan a nuestro sector. How long have you had your own business In Competa and what changes have there been since you first opened? We started our own business in 1992. My wife and I started the business at a time of deep crisis. We gained customers slowly in those difficult times but with our policy of great craftsmanship, quality material and reasonable prices, over time business improved and grew. We surrounded ourselves with good workers and some of them are still with us today. Myself and our workers regularly attend training courses which increases our expertise and keeps us up to date on any innovations that come to our line of business. Nosotros, además de realizar trabajos de instalación y reparación a domicilio, tenemos tienda de venta de todo tipo de material relacionado con la labor que realizamos. Si nuestro cliente prefiere hacer el trabajo él mismo, le suministramos el material necesario y le prestamos asesoramiento cualificado sobre la instalación. The business in Competa has a lot of stock, is it a shop too? As well as offering an installation and repair service, we have a shop that sells all kinds of materials related to the work that we do. If our clients prefer to do the job themselves, we supply the necessary material and we can provide the expert advice on installation. ¿Tienes algún plan de futuro para la empresa en Cómpeta? Lo principal en nuestros planes de futuro es seguir manteniendo satisfecha a nuestra excelente clientela, ello lo conseguimos con tres bases: 1. Continuar actualizando nuestra formación, estando en permanente contacto con los técnicos de las empresas proveedoras y asistiendo regularmente a cursos de formación. 2. Adquirir siempre productos de alta calidad (esto no es fácil en estos tiempos donde a menudo fabricas nacionales se cierran para reconvertirse en almacenes de distribución de material importado). En este apartado no ahorramos costes ni esfuerzos porque pensamos que la calidad en los componentes es fundamental para la terminación de un buen trabajo. 3. optimizar las instalaciones que realizamos con el fin de mantener nuestra política inicial de precios razonables. Esto lo conseguimos con nuestra experiencia de muchos años y la asistencia y asesoramiento de técnicos de nuestras empresas suministradoras (Vaillant, Junckers, Roca, Honeywell, Sonneckraft, Espa, etc.) con los que nos cuidamos de mantener una relación flúida y cercana. Do you have any future plans for the business in Competa? The main focus of our future plans is to maintain our excellent customer satisfaction rate and this we can achieve by continuing with three important principles: 1. Continue to update our training, remaining in constant contact with experts and suppliers and regularly attending training courses. 2. Always to acquire high quality products (this is not easy in these times where often national factories have closed and have converted into distribution warehouses with imported material). We spare no cost or effort as we believe that the quality of the components is essential for the completion of a good job. 3. Optimize the services we offer in order to maintain our initial policy of reasonable prices. We can achieve this with our many years of experience, technical assistance and advice from our suppliers (Valliant, Junkers, Roca, Honeywell, Sonneckraft, Espa, etc.) with which we take care to maintain a fluid and close relationship. ¿Qué otro servicios se puede ofrecer? Centramos nuestra actividad en servicios relacionados con el agua. Hacemos por supuesto fontanería, reparamos fugas de todo tipo, desatoros de desagües, calefacción, aire acondicionado, instalamos equipos solares para agua caliente sanitaria pero también combinados con calefacción y piscinas, en el apartado de piscinas también climatizamos con bomba de calor o paneles solares, instalamos cubiertas, equipos de cloración salina, equipos a contracorriente, sistemas infinity, también realizamos instalaciones para clientes que prefieren construir su propio Jacuzzy hecho en obra, etc. Nuestra ventaja con otras empresas que vienen de fuera para realizar los mismos trabajos que nosotros es nuestra cercanía. A menudo atendemos a clientes que han gastado importantes sumas de dinero en equipos sofisticados que una vez instalados “y cobrados” quedan desatendidos de servicio y mantenimiento. Una vez realizado el trabajo, a menudo pierden el vínculo con el cliente. Nosotros llevamos ya cerca de 25 años en el mismo sitio, con los mismos empleados, los mismos horarios y los mismos números de teléfono; a lo largo de todos esos años hemos visto muchas empresas ir y venir, algunas con mucho “bombo”. We focus on all water-related services. We of course provide plumbing and all kind of leak repairs, desadores, drainage, heating, and air conditioning, installation of solar equipment for hot water, central heating and heated swimming pools. Also for swimming pools we can offer acclimatisation by heat pump or solar panels, install pool covers, salt water chlorination equipment, everyday pool equipment and infinity systems. We also offer services for customers who prefer to build their own Jacuzzi on site, etc. Our advantage over other companies that come from outside to perform the same jobs as us is our proximity. Other companies often serve clients who have spent large sums of money on sophisticated equipment but once installed “and charged” and then not serviced. Once the work is done, they often lose the link with the client. We have been in business for 25 years in the same place with the same staff, the same schedule and the same phone numbers; throughout these years we have seen many companies come and go. Some of them have left no trace; we want to be here in Cómpeta for many years to come. Haces todo el trabajo tú mismo? ¿Tienes otros empleados? Tenemos excelente personal en nómina que realizan los trabajos. Trabajadores cualificados en constante formación y dispuestos a solucionar problemas de todo tipo. Do you do all the work yourself? Do you have other employees? We have excellent staff on the payroll . They are qualified and constantly training and are willing to solve all kinds of problems. ¿Dónde te ves en 10 años? Básicamente en el mismo sitio, este es un negocio sin grandes pretensiones de expansión, mas importante para nosotros es mantener a nuestra cercana clientela (la mayoría de nuestros clientes son también buenos amigos) y centramos nuestros esfuerzos en mejorar el servicio del día a día sin subir los precios más de lo necesario. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? Basically in the same place, it is a business without plans for big expansion, more important for us is to keep our customers close (most of our customers are also good friends) and focus our efforts on improving service everyday without raising prices more than necessary. ¿Qué haces para divertirte? Fuera de nuestra actividad laboral tengo ocupaciones que rellenan mi tiempo libre. Principalmente la agricultura, la música y el futbol sirven de complemento para rellenar mi vida. Y nada más. What do you do for fun? Outside of our work activities I have hobbies that fill my spare time. Mainly agriculture, music and football are enough to fulfil my life and nothing more. .
