INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE also known as CHAMPISSAGE, is a form of massage which addresses those areas where we hold a great deal of tension; the face, head, neck and shoulders.

Indian Head Massage, also known as Champissage is an ancient art based on a traditional form of medicine known as Ayurveda, which has been practiced in India for over three thousand years and is becoming increasingly popular in the West. The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit, the ancient language of India, and means ‘knowledge of life’. This form of massage addresses those areas where we hold a great deal of tension; the face, head, neck and shoulders.

My first introduction to Champissage was in January 2000 when I visited an Ayurveda Hospital in Kerala, Southern India to study the principles of Ayurvedic massage. Our Champissage teacher was a ‘bone manipulator’; similar to an osteopath. He had little vision and worked from both knowledge and instinct. In this treatment I can respect the combined benefit of knowledge and intuition. The head is a sensitive part of the torso and each client must be treated individually.

What to expect during a Champissage treatment.
You can expect to be comfortably seated in a chair, fully clothed, in a relaxed atmosphere. The treatment begins with gentle introduction to the face and head, and a massage of the cervical, neck and shoulders to melt fatigue. This is then followed by a scalp massage, which is a series of integrated techniques, both gentle and invigorating. Finally the client receives a facial massage incorporating specific ‘marma’ energy points,.
