The Hunt For Rose

Image Jane Kirk describes how lovely it is to be part of such a caring community.

Rose is a dog. More precisely, Rose is a dog that lived with her owners and other dogs in Frigiliana. Not that the other dogs were half way as brilliant as Rose. After all, one was blind and the other was short of a leg. But they were CAS dogs and she agreed to them being homed with her.

One day they all moved to live in the vicinity of Cómpeta. This was fine, although Rose missed her old haunts and routines. Fine that is, until one day, whilst walking in the campo, her owner had a serious and fatal accident!!  The nightmare and sorrow began.
Her Mum returned to the UK with the other dogs, but Rose couldn't go as she didn't have a valid passport. (as if that was important at a time like this! Stupid rules!! )
It was decided that Rose would be fostered whilst she awaited this blessed passport.
Well, Rose was having none of it and plotted her escape with dastardly cunning. It was quite easy really. No human is proof against a serious Escape Plan! It worked to perfection  Rose made good her getaway and disappeared into the Campo. Admittedly, she had overlooked the small detail of the lead still attached to her collar, but a Daring Escapee can be forgiven the occasional oversight….

Well the Hunt was joined! Loud calls of “Ro-ose!” resounded throughout the areas between Torrox and Frigiliana. But all to no avail.

After 2 days, it was time To Call for Reinforcements! A Special Communications Centre was established at Radio Sol de Almijara in Nerja. The team of presenters, headed by Geoff Cameron, broadcast regular appeals for listeners to look out for Rose. The magic worked!!

It took another 3 days littered with reports of sightings of Rose, but no-one was able to apprehend the Daring Escapee. We began to despair, but the demon drink came to the rescue! She decided to visit a bar in Frigiliana where her beloved Dad used to drink. There she met a dear old friend and decided to abandon this Life on the Road and agreed to the suggestion that she got a grip and settled down with her loving fosterers and waited for this blessed passport.
Radio listeners went back to their crosswords…….but isn't it lovely to be part of such a caring community?!! We are so lucky!
