WINE, WOMEN AND SONG

In the heat of August, exhausted by the cacophony of noises from the fiestas and fireworks of the summer months, you may longing for something that embraces music but doesn't include flashing lights and bumper cars! You can find it at Bodegas Bentomiz, the winery just above Sayalonga.

On Sunday August 26th Thomas Kaurich returns to gives us a night of classical piano music – a rare treat here in the Malaga hills. Thomas opened Bodegas Bentomiz's 2017 concert program with a wonderful performance – but that is no surprise when you look at his career. He debuted as a pianist at just 12 years old with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He went on to win top prizes and perform internationally, from New York to London, from Toronto to Paris. He currently lives in Sedella, running the beautiful Finca La Maroma guesthouse with his partner, Mark, but will return to the keyboard for this Mountain Wine & Music event.

Thomas's program for this summer night will showcase the passion and virtuosity of the great romantic composers. Guests will be able to relax, a glass of wine in their hand, and listen as the sun sets behind the western hills. The bodega is in the most beautiful location, with wonderful views across the valley, all the way from the Sierra to the Mediterranean Sea.  The artists play on the forecourt between the beautiful slate-clad building and the vineyard (I am sure the vines enjoy the music too!). Artists and audience are sheltered by a row of pine trees, so guests enjoy an open-air concert with cooling breezes and shade for a hot summer's night. Drinks – including the Bodega's own, award-winning Ariyanas wines, and freshly made gourmet tapas will be available from the bar. Indeed you can enjoy them from six o'clock until the start of the music at eight, and again in the interval. There are vegetarian and vegan tapas options, as well as hot and cold, meat and fish – something for everyone.
But you may be wondering about the title of this article. “ 'Wine, women & song'? When do the women come in?” The answer, in terms of musicians, is in September. ¡Ellas! is a four-member, all-female band – as you might guess from the name – and they will be playing at Bodegas Bentomiz on Sunday 16th of September. Like Thomas they played last year and were so popular they have been invited to return. With an emphasis on jazz and soul, they perform a tribute to the great divas of modern music – so great music by women is the theme of the night. This is a concert that may get you to your feet and dancing!

Both of these events offer visitors a unique experience of music, along with delicious food and wine in a gorgeous setting. Booking your tickets in advance is recommended! If you wish to book email the bodega at reservas@bodegasbentomiz.com, or call +34 658 845 286.
