As part of its Cultural week, the Ayuntamiento of Canillas de Albaida proudly presents the third Night of Multi-cultural Music and Dance to be held in the Plaza (main square) in Canillas de Albaida on Sunday 5th October. Admission to the event is free but there will be opportunities to donate to local charities.
The event will be hosted by Inez Leniere and Roger Sparks in Spanish and English and they will open the concert at 7.30pm.
The first artists to perform will be the Canillas Children’s flamenco dance group, Las Niñas de Canillas, this is a group of local Spanish and English children dancing traditional dances. Local band The Rooters, (Tom Robinson, Rod Jones and Mitch France) will then play a mix of American and British songs.
Fantastic Belgian Flamenco guitarist, Pedro Sauviller, who learned his trade amongst the gypsies of Seville, will be performing next, followed by Tom Robinson who will play a selection of tunes on his clarinet including the well requested “Stranger on the Shore”.
Up next will be another local group, Aire Flamenco, a band of 3 musicians, from Cómpeta and Árchez. They play all styles of music, rock & roll, reggea, etc, although they recognize that Spanish music is their first love.
Irish music will be represented by Mitch France, who will play a selection of well know Irish drinking songs to sing along to and also some traditional tunes on tenor banjo and mandolin.
Isidro and Cristina are two artists who dedicate their lives to spreading the Andalusian culture and customs through the discipline of dance, guitar and singing, and their sole intention is to try to convey their feelings to the audience, go beyond the image and folklore and make you want to smile.
At around 11.30pm (if all goes to plan), as many musicians as is practical will join The Rooters and play some music for dancing to. This unique multi-cultural night of music was a huge success when held last year, please come along and make sure it is just as successful again this year. There will be an opportunity to donate to local charities, For Youtube footage of the last concert, key in “Canillas de Albaida Multicultural night”.
