A fantastic 2009/2010 season saw our young Benjamin Team finish winners of their League having won 10 out of their 11 matches. A great achievement and fully deserved for all the hard work the team has put in. It was also the first time a Cómpetanian team has ever won the league. Following the end of the season, finals were held at the Malaga Football Federation pitches, which saw Cómpeta, meet another 2 winners out of the 6 leagues that cover the province.
We got off to a great start beating Yunquera 6-3. Yunquera had won a league including teams from some large towns such as Alhaurin El Grande, Alhaurin de la Torre, Coin and Alora, which gives a measure of how far we have come as a team. Unfortunately Cómpeta had to play their second game straight away, and were beaten by a strong team representing Fuengirola. Tiredness and the heat proved too much for us, but we had done ourselves proud.
Following our Benjamin League win and the finals in Malaga, all our teams were invited to Tivoli World by the Malaga Federation where the team was presented with a trophy in front of all the other winning teams from a variety of sports. Two coaches left Cómpeta and although it was extremely hot, everyone had a great day including the parents, coaches from the Ayuntamiento Sports Department and the Mayor himself Jose Luis.
Following our Infantil team missing out on the finals last year by 1 point and the Benjamin successes this year, our young footballers are going from strength to strength.
