The beautiful town of Cómpeta sits surrounded by Natural Park in the Sierra Almijara just 50 kilometres from Malaga. The hills, mountains and lovely scenery have long been an attraction to walkers, tourists and artists from many different countries.
The winding streets are perfect for wandering through and exploring the delights of this fine example of an Andalucian whitewashed town.
At the centre of the town is the Plaza Almijara overlooked by the tower of the 16th century Church La Asunción. The plaza is the ideal place to relax and watch the world go by. Cómpeta boasts in excess of 20 bars and restaurants ranging from traditional Spanish bars to sophisticated restaurants including one that was referred to as “the best in the area” by the British Airways in-flight magazine, The Highlife.
Cómpeta is also well known for its wine. The Moscatel grape thrives here and local bodegas have supplied the dessert wine to the Spanish Royal wedding between Crown Prince Felipe and Letizia Ortiz in 2004, and to some of Gordon Ramsey’s restaurants in the UK. The wine produced is celebrated annually in August with the Noche del Vino fiesta.
During this November there are even more reasons to come and enjoy Cómpeta; local businesses have joined together by giving a selection of offers and savings which allow you to beat the Christmas rush whilst saving you money.
The Earth Collection, De Zoya, Sugar & Spice and Todo Papel are all located in or around the Plaza Almijara.
The Earth Collection sell ladies and mens fashions made from textiles made using natural, environmentally friendly fibres as well as a range of complimentary accessories.
De Zoya imports ladies clothes and underwear from such well-known UK-based retailers as Next, M&S, New Look and BHS, all sold at amazing prices.
At Sugar and Spice you can buy quality English and international foods as well as very reasonably priced giftware and furniture.
Todo Papel offer international news and magazines as well as the very latest book titles in English. They offer quality greetings cards, toys and games and have a complete range of Christmas cards as well as diaries and calendars for 2009.
